Why the Practice Exists

Active Health was built on a simple premise: patients with complex conditions deserve better than fragmented care, and should not have to bounce between separate offices, repeat their history at every visit, and carry messages between providers who never speak to one another.

Bringing physical therapy, sports medicine and medical services together in one Jacksonville location produced a clinic where providers share information, align their recommendations and collaborate on every patient’s care. Those disciplines all belong to the same broad field, physical medicine and rehabilitation, which treats function and movement rather than a single body part. The model was inspired by the integrated care used in elite athletic training. Dr. Jeffrey D. Lipp founded the practice in 2005 and remains its owner.

How We Practice

Care at Active Health runs on three commitments: treatment plans coordinated across disciplines, a plan built for the individual rather than a protocol, and treatment aimed at what is causing the pain rather than at masking it.

Coordinated, cross-disciplinary plans

When the medical and rehab teams share a building and the same records, care stays consistent. Plans are built across physical therapy, sports medicine and medical services, and stay aligned visit to visit.

Plans built one person at a time

Every plan starts from that person’s own findings: what the exam and movement testing show, what their work and training week actually demands, and what they want back. Two people with the same diagnosis get different sequencing.

Beyond symptom management

Masking pain with quick fixes is not healthcare. Treatment addresses what is actually causing the discomfort, which is what lets you return to the activities you want back.

Who Practices Here

Active Health is a team of five: a founder and owner, a doctor of physical therapy, a physical therapist assistant, a rehabilitation tech and an office manager. Each card below shows who they are and what they focus on, and links to their full bio.

Where We Sit in Jacksonville

The clinic sits in the Southpoint corridor on the Southside of Jacksonville, just off I-95 and J. Turner Butler Blvd (JTB). Patients come from across Northeast Florida, from Ponte Vedra and the Beaches to Mandarin, St. Augustine and Orange Park, and some fly in for a week of treatment.

For orientation, Mayo Clinic Florida is east along J. Turner Butler Blvd, and Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville is north up I-95 on the Southbank. Active Health is an independent practice. If you are planning the trip in, the address, hours and map are on the contact page.

Plantar fasciitis · Disc disease
I have been going to Active Health for almost 10 years now. They’ve helped me with everything from curing my plantar fasciitis to fixing issues with my hip with a Wharton’s jelly allograft injection to helping me manage my degenerative disc disease.

Chronic pain
I love that they don't settle for the typical medical model of pain management, but rather they help you address the root physiological causes of your pain. Dr. Brown patiently answered my 50 million questions, and everyone was invested in helping me take charge of my recovery.
Abigail BarberVerified Google review
Auto injury · Herniated disc
I was struggling for years in pain after a severe car accident, resulting in herniated discs and a torn rotator cuff/labrum tear. Avoiding surgery and going to various physical therapy clinics, nothing seemed to help. Dr. Brown, Josh, and Jared are all very knowledgeable and motivating!
